Worcester scored all its runs in a big third-inning on Friday night en route to a 5-3 victory. Nick Sogard gave the Red Sox the lead with a two-run single, Bobby Dalbec drove in two runs with a double and Narciso Crook capped the scoring with an RBI double. Brian Van Belle struck out nine in six innings to get the win.
Syracuse starter Peyton Battenfield surrendered five hits and walked four in 2.1 innings before three relievers worked 5.2 no-hit innings, striking out 10. Jaylen Palmer and Michael Perez hit solo homers and Abraham Almonte stroked an RBI single in the first.
The playoff chances for the Red Sox are still slim. With eight games left, they are five-and-a-half games behind first-place Durham and have four teams between themselves and the Bulls.
